Different options of bike sharing systems

Urban Pathways collaborates with organisations working in different regions to identify projects in which the experience and technical knowledge of its experts' team can contribute to the implementation of sustainable urban infrastructure projects in the mobility, energy and resources sectors. In May 2018, the Municipality of Ibagué in Colombia was awarded a grant of EUR 380,000 by EUROCLIMA+ to implement the pilot project of a bike sharing system which will run partly with electric bicycles. At present, Ibagué is in the process of defining the characteristics of the system; thus it requires support in the selection of the most suitable operation model. In this context, Urban Pathways organized a working session with members of the Sustainable Mobility Technical Advisory Board of Ibagué. Kelly Camacho, Advisor on Sustainable Mobility of the Municipality of Ibagué presented an overview of the Urban Mobility Plan, as well as the actions that have been conceived in this framework including the e-bike sharing system. The training offered by Urban Pathways that followed contributed with the technical inputs about the differences of the existing operation models, so that the municipality of Ibagué has a clear overview of the options and chooses the most adequate one for its needs and context. The working session ended with a discussion among the participants about the most adequate model for Ibagué given its particularities.
