Smart and Sustainable Urban Mobility Conference in Taipei

Mr Sunny Kodukula from the Urban Pathways team participated in the Smart and Sustainable Urban Mobility Workshop held by the National University of Taiwan in cooperation with ITS Taiwan and ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability (Kaohsiung Capacity Centre). The 3-day workshop attracted over 30 participants who are city officials, urban planners and academia, from the Vietnam, Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. Urban Pathways presentation focused on the importance of creating cities for people and highlighted experiences from month long car-free events in Korea and South Africa, pointing out the importance of stakeholder involvement and political will in transforming urban mobility.
The participants took part in a stakeholder discussion role-play in transforming a neighbourhood of Taipei. The exercise enabled the participants to take various roles of everyday residents in the neighbourhood and voice their concerns and scepticism in removing personal motorised vehicles from their neighbourhood.
"Melaka is an inspiring city"

The Urban Pathways team visited the city of Melaka, one of its replication cities. Assistant State Secretary for Economic Planning, Muhammad Zukhairy bin Mohamad Nor discussed concrete steps with the team for Urban Pathways to take action in Melaka in line with Melaka´s Green City Action Plan and future city-to-city partnerships with Urban Pathways pilot and replication cities.
Urban Pathways – at the World Urban Forum
At several sessions the Urban Pathways project the project team outlined the program to develop concrete low-carbon energy, mobility and waste-management implementation action and some of the recent highlights were presented by several project partner cites. In cooperation with UN-Habitat, Wuppertal Institute, the IKI team and city partners several events and trainings were organised with a focus on the implementation of the New Urban Agenda, a global programme for sustainable urban development.
