City twinning on waste management: Buenos Aires – Lima
Initiated by Urban Pathway team the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, will assist Lima, Peru, under the Waste Wise Cities Initiative (initiated by UN-Habitat) to improve the waste management system. Representatives of both cities participated in the Waste Wise Cities Tool Training on 22 October, and Lima will apply the Tool in early 2021.
Given the current pandemic situation, where site visits are difficult, a virtual tour series is organized, of which the first session has taken place on December 3rd, 2020. Upcoming weekly sessions will touch upon the topic of experiences with source separation, management of organic waste, dry waste management and the recycling center.

CITY TWINNING ACTIVITIES BETWEEN BELO HORIZONTE AND Santiago de Chile
In January 2019, during the Cities Sustainable Infrastructure Forum organised by Urban Pathways in Quito, Belo Horizonte had the opportunity to know the work of Ciudad Emergente. Ciudad Emergente is a Chilean NGO a vast experience in implementing urban projects operated at multiple scales in more than 10 countries, mostly in Latin America. Their projects go from short-term actions known as tactical urbanism, to social innovation processes, addressing citizen participation as well as urban design projects, architecture and long-term strategy planning for cities. Urban Pathways has relied on the expertise of Ciudad Emergente for several workshops and webinars.

UEMI workshop 2019 Buenos Aires
Road traffic accidents are now the leading cause of death of people aged 5-29 years. The burden is disproportionately borne by pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists, in particular those living in developing countries. With this in mind, the Urban Electric Mobility Initiative (UEMI) that supports cities in the implementation of low-carbon mobility measures aims to provide a space in which European and Latin American cities can exchange their views and experience on how to integrate road safety measures in low-carbon mobility planning. Thus, the workshop that will take place as a side event of the 5th Meeting of the Safer City Streets Network, will focus on the following topics:
The ITF Safer City Streets network offers a platform for road safety experts to share their experience and develop a global database at city level. A full network meeting took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on 10-11 April 2019. It was attended by over 90 participants, including representatives from 20 cities.

24 participants from 10 Asian countries (Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Mongolia, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam) joined the training course on urban mobility, and discussed on modes, options and strategies for sustainable, safe, accessible, and innovative urban transportation in global as well as in the context of Asian cities. The course modules include mobility’s role in sustainable development; land use and urban mobility options; environmental, social and economic sustainability of mobility; and towards a sustainable reality - sustainable urban mobility planning and designing an action plan incorporating policy development and programme implementation for sustainable transport. The cutting edge knowledge from the experts from UN-Habitat, IUTC, Wuppertal Institute, SLoCat, and Korean sustainable mobility practitioners, as well as site visits in Chuncheon and Wonju cities and Inje county in Gangwon Province, provided the insight on options and impact of sustainable urban transport. The group discussion and presentation of action plan from the participants’ cities cases (from Delhi (India), Colombo (Sri Lanka), Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia), Thimphu (Bhutan), Kathmandu (Nepal), Hanoi (Vietnam) and Phnom Phen (Cambodia) provided peer-to-peer learning experience during the training course.

In our second Eco District Webinar, six experts from Mexico, Venezuela and Ecuador discussed about the possible interventions in the sectors of energy and resources at the neighbourhood level. The webinar include the topic of how urban infrastructure projects can be financed. The Urban Pathways team organised a series of webinars on EcoDistricts in Spanish in the context of the EcoDistricts Design Contest launched by the Metropolitan Institute of Urban Planning of Quito (IMPU by its Spanish acronym).
The city of Bremen is visiting Belo Horizonte to discuss the implementation of Zones 30 in Belo Horizonte, foreseen in the Calm Circulation Axis of the Urban Mobility Plan of Belo Horizonte - PlanMob-BH, including the challenges and possibilities for the implementation of Zones 30 in order to make the streets safer especially for children and the elderly.

Cape Town and Casablanca will visit Nairobi for the 2 days workshop focusing on implementation action in Africa of the UNFCCC’s Paris Agreement in the context of the New Urban Agenda and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In close collaboration with our partner organisations, city officials and interested parties this workshop builds on the objective to boost low carbon plans for urban mobility, energy and waste management services that delivers on the New Urban Agenda.

Belo Horizonte and Accra are meeting Kochi at the jointly organised GIZ Training week organised for transport practitioners from around the world focusing on urban mobility planning, financing and integration. Highlighting the importance of transport to limit global warming, the second Transport and Climate Change Week fosters knowledge exchange and high-level contacts between transport colleagues from all over the world. To fight climate change together, around 60 transport experts especially from developing and emerging economies gather in Berlin to discuss ways on how to change transport for the better.

The Urban Pathways cities (Melaka, Malaysia and Haiphong, Vietnam) are invited by ICLEI – Local governments for sustainability to join a training course organized under the Ambitious cities project funded by the IKI. The topics of the training course viz. urban mobility and waste management closely match the focus of the Urban Pathways project. The training in Seoul is organized by the Seoul City Government, Seoul Human Resources Development division and ICLEI. Joining the training gives an opportunity for the Urban Pathways project cities to share experiences and explore synergies between two projects funded by BMUB-IKI.
The training is held from the 03 - 07th of September 2018 in Seoul. The training will be attended by up to 15 cities in the South East and East Asian region (a list of participants is attached). The participants will deliberate on the topics of urban mobility and waste management and learn about the ways Seoul is handling these issues, through presentations and site visits.
